Adding to the multiple drug busts made across Gujarat’s coastal areas, two more suspicious packets containing charas, valued at approximately ₹93.30 lakh, were discovered along the coast of Devbhumi Dwarka on September 16.
Local authorities were alerted after the packets were spotted on the eastern shore of Beyt Dwarka.
On checking, the police found that the packets contained high-quality charas, weighing a total of 866 grams.
The Beyt Dwarka police subsequently registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and began further investigations.
It is believed that the newly devised methodology adopted by the drug cartels has been used in this case as well, where drugs packed in plastic bags are thrown into the sea from international waters.
These bags are then carried by ocean currents to the shores of Saurashtra and Kutch. Once the packets reach the coastline, local agents of the drug cartels retrieve them and sell the drugs in urban areas through a smuggling network.
The police are actively investigating the matter, aiming to uncover more details about the individuals involved in this illegal drug trade.
Earlier, congratulating the Ahmedabad Police on a drug bust, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi said this accomplishment reflects the Crime Branch’s dedication to eradicating drugs from society.
“Our fight against drugs will continue unabated. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure a safer and healthier community for all. Keep up the fantastic work, Team Ahmedabad Crime Branch,” he said in a post on X dating September 6.
Since 2021, Gujarat has seen a surge in drug seizures with around 87,605 kg of narcotics valued at ₹9,680 crore confiscated across the state.
However, smuggling of drugs along the Kutch coastline remains a concern, with 242 packages washed ashore in June alone.
