Fake AMC demolition in Ahmedabad’s Nana Chiloda sparks alarm, 12 private security guards detained

Twelve private security guards were detained after men allegedly posing as Amdavad Municipal Corporation officials demolished three shops in Nana Chiloda, prompting an official probe.

‘Demolition’ carried out in AMC’s name

The incident came to light in Nana Chiloda after a group of men allegedly entered the area claiming to be associated with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and began removing structures on the pretext of clearing illegal encroachments.

Three shops were reportedly demolished during the episode. However, the AMC later clarified that its officials had not carried out any such demolition.

The incident triggered concern within the civic administration, with the AMC Estate Department sending a team to the spot to verify what had happened.

AMC denies carrying out demolition

An AMC Estate Department official said the location was on private land near the boundary between the corporation area and the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation jurisdiction.

According to the official, the civic body had not undertaken any demolition operation at the site.

The three shops had earlier been marked for removal because of a proposed road-related work. The shopkeepers had subsequently removed the structures themselves after the demarcation, the official said.

Shopkeepers alert police

The shop owners reportedly became suspicious during the incident and contacted the police through the emergency helpline 112.

Following the complaint, police reached the location and detained around 10 to 12 men associated with a private security agency. They were taken to the police station for questioning.

Private security agency under scrutiny

The AMC Estate Department has indicated that personnel linked to Rajput Security Agency may have been involved in the alleged action.

Officials are investigating why private security personnel allegedly entered the premises and used the name of the municipal corporation while carrying out the operation.

The civic body has said legal action will be taken against those found responsible for misusing the AMC’s name and carrying out unauthorised activity on private property.

Police probe underway

The detained security guards are being questioned to establish who instructed them to visit the site, what authority they were acting under and why the AMC’s name was allegedly used.

The investigation is also expected to examine whether the incident was an isolated act or part of a wider attempt to use the civic body’s identity to carry out unauthorised demolitions.

The AMC has maintained that no demolition was conducted by its officials at the location.
