Updated: Sep 14th, 2024

In a dramatic turn of events in Bhavnagar, City Congress leader Hitesh Vyas presented evidence of illegal drug sales directly to District Collector R K Mehta. The presentation included a packet of marijuana and a bottle of narcotic syrup in the Collector’s office.

Vyas, accompanied by Congress officials, accused the local police of failing to address the escalating issue of drug abuse in the city. He claimed that drug and alcohol abuse had significantly worsened, highlighting a lapse in law enforcement.

To prove his allegations, Vyas placed a bottle of narcotic syrup on the Collector’s desk, asserting that medical stores were selling it openly. He also revealed a packet of marijuana and detailed upscale areas in Bhavnagar, where drugs were reportedly being sold publicly.

The confrontation has sparked a major controversy, raising questions about the sources of these drugs and how they were smuggled into the Collector’s office

In response to the allegations, Collector Mehta supported the concerns raised by the Congress leader. He confirmed that the police were actively working to tackle the drug problem and acknowledged that the Congress had lodged complaints about alleged illegal sales in different areas. The seriousness of these complaints has been communicated to the district police chief, and the police are expected to take further action.

The incident underscores growing concerns about drug abuse in Bhavnagar and the effectiveness of local law enforcement.
