While more than 15 lakh students in Gujarat from Classes 10 and 12 are appearing for their boards after rigorous preparations, some elements were caught using unfair means to pass the exams on Mar 12.

Mass cheating was reported on the second day of the board exams at two exam centres in Karamsad and Tarapur in Anand district.

The first incident in Karamsad came to light when the District Education Officer (DEO), Kamini Trivedi, paid a surprise visit to the city’s Sardar Patel Vidyalaya centre, where the Class 12 commerce stream exam was taking place.

A person was spotted outside the examination hall assisting the students in writing answers. The person absconded as the DEO tried approaching them. An investigation was launched over this incident.

A similar incident was reported at the Shree Sarvajanik High School examination centre in Tarapur. The board’s squad observer and government official learned of an unauthorised person entering the centre and helping students write their answers. The DEO was informed about this.

Taking cognizance of these incidents, the DEO suspended the entire staff, including the centre superintendent of both schools. She also issued a notice to the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) about the probe being launched.

Additional police security is also requested to be deployed at both centres from today onwards.

Special instructions are notified to the staff, including the centre superintendents, of all schools in the district to ensure curbing any malpractice incidents in the upcoming exams.
