All Schools and Colleges in Ahmedabad to Remain Closed on July 25 Following Heavy Rain Forecast

Due to the heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast for Ahmedabad city by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), as a precautionary measure, has ordered that all government, grant-in-aid, and private schools and colleges will remain closed for educational activities on July 25. In addition, it has been decided to keep all AMC-run Anganwadis closed until July 27. Notably, an announcement was also made to keep schools and colleges closed on July 24.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has appealed to the city's citizens, parents, students, and all educational institutions to take note of this decision and exercise necessary caution. Citizens have also been urged to avoid stepping out unnecessarily during the rainy conditions, stay away from rumors, and rely only on information provided through official channels.

Ahmedabad Rains

Heavy rainfall continued to lash Ahmedabad for the second consecutive day, triggering widespread waterlogging, rescue operations and multiple emergency incidents across the city.

One of the worst-affected areas was near Karnavati Club on SG Highway, where floodwaters reportedly rose to waist level, prompting the deployment of the Army for rescue operations.

More than 50 Army personnel, arriving in five trucks, were deployed to evacuate stranded residents from the inundated area. Several luxury vehicles were also left stranded or partially submerged as Army teams and local authorities worked to rescue people and restore normalcy.

Fire Department Responds to 132 Emergency Calls

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) Fire and Emergency Services Department remained on high alert, responding to 132 emergency calls between July 23 and 10 am on July 24.

The incidents included 36 rescue operations, 16 cases of structural collapse, 53 tree-fall incidents and 27 fire-related calls.

On July 23 alone, the department handled 109 emergency calls, comprising 26 rescue operations, 13 structural collapse incidents, 48 tree-fall cases and 22 fire calls.

The highest number of emergencies was reported from the city's West, South-West and North-West zones, where teams carried out multiple rescue operations and responded to widespread damage caused by the heavy rainfall.
