Heavy Rain Triggers Wall Collapse at Ambawadi Construction Site, Fire Brigade Rescues 20 Safely

A major tragedy was averted in Ahmedabad's Ambawadi area on Friday after a portion of a wall at an under-construction building collapsed following heavy rainfall, prompting a swift rescue operation by the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES). Around 20 people trapped at the site were rescued safely, officials said.

The incident occurred near Vishwaroop Society, where continuous rainfall caused soil erosion around the construction site, leading to the collapse of a large section of the C-1 block wall. The collapse put workers and others present at the site at risk, triggering an emergency response.

Upon receiving a distress call, multiple fire brigade teams rushed to the location and launched a rescue operation. All 20 people trapped in the affected area were safely evacuated and shifted to a secure location.

Senior fire officials supervise rescue operation

Given the seriousness of the incident, the Chief Fire Officer and the Additional Chief Fire Officer personally reached the site to monitor the rescue efforts.

Fire personnel also carried out a thorough search of the damaged structure and surrounding debris to ensure that no other individuals were trapped beneath the rubble.

AMC Estate Department and police informed

Following the rescue operation, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's Estate Department and the police were informed to assess the structural stability of the building and ensure the safety of nearby residential properties.

The concerned departments are currently examining the condition of the structure and are expected to initiate necessary legal and safety-related action based on their findings.

The incident comes as Ahmedabad continues to witness heavy rainfall, with several parts of the city reporting waterlogging, traffic disruptions and rain-related incidents over the past 24 hours.
