Gujarat’s 115 reservoirs flowing at 100% capacity after a spell of heavy rains

Gujarat has witnessed abundant rainfall this year, leading to a significant increase in water levels across the state. More than 55% of the state’s 206 reservoirs, amounting to 115, are now completely full. Additionally, 45 reservoirs have reached between 70% and 100% of their capacity, prompting a high alert.

Furthermore, 17 reservoirs in the state are between 50% and 70% full, triggering an alert. Twenty reservoirs have between 25% and 50% of their capacity, while nine reservoirs have less than 25% storage.

The Sardar Sarovar Yojana has received 2,88,248 million cubic feet (mcft) of water, which is more than 86% of its total capacity.

Currently, Gujarat’s 206 reservoirs collectively hold 4,40,773 mcft of water, which is over 79% of their total storage capacity.

Region-wise, Central Gujarat’s 17 reservoirs have recorded over 92% storage, Kutch’s 20 reservoirs have 87%, Saurashtra’s 141 reservoirs have 85%, South Gujarat’s 13 reservoirs have 78%, and North Gujarat’s 15 reservoirs have over 52% storage.

As of 8 am today, due to heavy rainfall, the Sardar Sarovar Yojana has received an inflow of 2.35 lakh cubic feet per second (cusecs) and released 2.45 lakh cusecs.
