Gujarat’s 76 reservoirs flowing at 100% capacity following heavy rain

Heavy rains across the state have resulted in 76 reservoirs in several talukas of Gujarat running at full capacity (100%). At the same time, 46 reservoirs are between 70% and 100% full, prompting high alerts.

Additionally, 23 dams in the state are between 50% and 70% full, 30 dams are between 25% and 50% full, and 31 dams house less than 25% water storage.

The Sardar Sarovar Dam currently stores 2,90,547 mcft (million cubic feet) of water, 87% of its total storage capacity.

Moreover, the other 206 reservoirs in the state have a combined storage of 4,07,440 mcft, 72.73% of their total storage capacity.

In light of the torrential rains, the Sardar Sarovar Dam has recorded an inflow of 3.38 lakh cusecs of water against an outflow of 3.85 lakh cusecs as of 8 am today.

Similarly, Wanakbori dam on Mahi River recorded an inflow of 2.87 lakh cusecs against an outflow of 2.87 lakh cusecs, Tapi’s Ukai dam recorded an inflow of 2.47 lakh cusecs against an outflow of 2.46 lakh cusecs, Aji-4 dam recorded an inflow of 1.63 lakh cusecs against an outflow of 1.63 lakh cusecs, Kadana dam recorded an inflow of 1.50 lakh cusecs against an outflow of 1.25 lakh cusecs, and Narmada’s Und-1 dam inflow of 1.19 lakh cusecs against an outflow of 1.19 lakh cusecs of water.

Furthermore, 94 other reservoirs in the state are receiving an inflow of 70,000 to 1,00,000 cusecs.

Official data states that 17 reservoirs in Central Gujarat are 87% full, 13 in South Gujarat are 78% full, 141 in Saurashtra are 66% full, 20 in Kutch are 61% full, and 15 in North Gujarat are more than 39% full.
