China is set to host a one-of-a-kind marathon in April, where humans and robots will compete side by side, as per reports.

The event will be held in Daxing, Beijing, which will reportedly feature a 21-kilometer track and prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers—whether human or robot.

The race will see 12,000 human participants competing alongside robots developed by 20 different companies, suggested the reports.

Organisers have reportedly issued specific guidelines for the robots’ design and functionality to ensure fair competition.

Robot Specifications:

Height: Between 0.5 meters and 2 meters tall

Width: A minimum distance of 0.45 meters from the hip joint to the sole of the foot

Operation: Both remote-controlled and fully autonomous robots are eligible

Battery replacement: Companies are allowed to replace robot batteries during the race if needed

This race is reportedly hosted to address robots and their demographic challenges, with the decreasing workforce and mortality rate increasing the introduction of robots and technology.
