Madhuban Dam Releases Over 1.25 Lakh Cusecs of Water Into Damanganga River

Heavy rainfall across Valsad district and the catchment areas of the Madhuban Dam has led to a rise in water inflow, prompting authorities to release water into the Damanganga River. As a precaution, the Valsad district administration and the Union Territory administration have appealed to people to stay away from the river banks.

Heavy Rainfall Across The District

Rainfall continued across Valsad district from 4 pm on Tuesday to 6 am on Wednesday, with the district receiving an average of 2.4 inches of rain during the period.

Among all talukas, Kaprada recorded the highest rainfall at 8.4 inches, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas and affecting normal life. Drivers and pedestrians also faced difficulties as several low-level causeways were submerged.

During the same period, Dharampur received 2.5 inches of rainfall, while Nanapondha recorded 2.3 inches.

Madhuban Dam Releases Water

Continuous rainfall in the catchment areas and upper dams, including Mokhera, Dindori, Ozarkheda, Badi Palsan and Nani Palsan, increased the inflow into the Madhuban Dam.

In response, the dam authorities opened 8 of the 10 gates up to 4 metres from 8 am and began releasing water into the Damanganga River.

At 8 am, 1.25 lakh cusecs of water was released, followed by 1.24 lakh cusecs at 8.30 am. By 10 am, when the inflow into the dam increased to 1.30 lakh cusecs, the authorities released 1.28 lakh cusecs of water.

Administration Issues Alert

Following the release of water from the Madhuban Dam into the Damanganga River, the Valsad district administration and the Union Territory administration have remained on alert and urged people to stay away from the river banks.
