Yellow Alert Issued For 24 Bihar Districts As Active Monsoon Brings Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms

The southwest monsoon has become active across Bihar, prompting the Meteorological Centre in Patna to issue a yellow alert for 24 districts. The weather department has warned of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds with speeds of 40-50 km/h in several parts of the state.

24 Districts Under Yellow Alert

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the yellow alert has been issued for Siwan, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhepura, Supaul, Saharsa, Araria, Purnea, Katihar, Kishanganj, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Jamui, West Champaran, East Champaran and Gopalganj.

Residents in these districts have been advised to remain alert as heavy rainfall, lightning and gusty winds are likely.

Green Alert For Southern Bihar

The weather department has issued a green alert for districts in southern and south-western Bihar, indicating that no significant weather-related threat is expected at present.

The districts under the green alert are Patna, Jehanabad, Gaya, Nawada, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Arwal, Lakhisarai and Begusarai.

While isolated cloud cover and light showers may occur, heavy rainfall is not expected and normal daily activities are likely to continue without major disruption.

Patna Likely To See Light Showers

Patna witnessed light drizzle during the early morning hours before sunny conditions returned later in the day.

According to the forecast, the city’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 33°C and 35°C over the next few days. Intermittent light rain and changing cloud cover may bring a slight drop in temperature, offering some relief from the recent spell of heat and humidity.

Weather Department Issues Safety Advisory 

The Meteorological Department has urged people in the yellow alert districts to stay cautious during adverse weather conditions.

Residents have been advised to avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms, remain indoors during lightning activity whenever possible, and be careful while travelling during heavy rain and strong winds.
