Rahul Gandhi Shows Alleged Pellet Gun Victim, Demands PM Modi’s Apology Over Student Protest Crackdown

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday intensified his attack on the Centre over the ongoing examination paper leak controversy, presenting a student allegedly injured by a pellet gun during protests and demanding an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Gandhi alleged that students protesting against examination irregularities faced excessive force and claimed that the injured youth suffered damage to his eye during the police action.

Rahul Gandhi Targets Centre Over Student Protests

The Congress leader accused the government of failing to address concerns raised by students over alleged paper leaks and irregularities in competitive examinations.

Gandhi said the young protesters were demanding justice and accountability, not confrontation, and questioned the Centre’s handling of the demonstrations. He also renewed his demand for action against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the examination crisis.

The controversy has intensified after student groups, including the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), held protests in New Delhi over alleged failures in the examination system. The demonstrations witnessed clashes between protesters and security personnel, with opposition leaders alleging excessive use of force.

Alleged Pellet Gun Injury Becomes Focus of Political Row

During the press conference, Gandhi introduced a young protester who he claimed was injured by a pellet gun during the demonstration.

He alleged that the student suffered serious eye injuries while participating in the protest and questioned the government’s response to the incident.

The issue has become a fresh flashpoint between the Opposition and the Centre, with Congress leaders demanding accountability over the treatment of students during the protests.

PM Modi Asked to Apologise to Students

Gandhi called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologise to students affected by the alleged examination failures and the police action during protests.

Earlier, Gandhi had criticised the government over the handling of CJP-led demonstrations, calling the police response unacceptable and demanding that the concerns of students be addressed.

Paper Leak Issue Triggers Nationwide Debate

The protests have been driven by allegations of irregularities in major competitive examinations, including demands for stronger safeguards and accountability.

The Union government has responded by moving towards stricter anti-paper leak measures, including proposed amendments to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, while also holding talks with student representatives.

The political battle over examination reforms and student protests is expected to remain a key issue during the upcoming parliamentary session.
