₹35 Lakh Worth of Liquor Seized From Rajasthan Truck in Ahmedabad, Driver Flees Scene

The Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) on Tuesday seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and beer worth ₹35.15 lakh from a Rajasthan-registered truck in Ahmedabad’s Narol area, dealing a fresh blow to the illegal liquor trade in Gujarat.

The consignment was recovered from a closed-body Ashok Leyland goods vehicle intercepted on the S.P. Ring Road within the Narol police station limits. The truck driver, however, managed to escape before police could arrest him.

Truck Intercepted on SP Ring Road

According to officials, the PCB acted on specific intelligence inputs and stopped the vehicle between Ramdev Hotel and Aai Mata Hotel, ahead of the Komod crossroads.

A search of the truck led to the recovery of 2,411 bottles and beer cans packed in 141 cartons. The seized IMFL and beer are estimated to be worth ₹25.15 lakh.

Police also impounded the vehicle used to transport the consignment. The truck has been valued at ₹10 lakh.

Seized Property Valued at ₹35.15 Lakh

The total value of the seized property, including the liquor and the vehicle, has been pegged at ₹35.15 lakh.

Investigators suspect that the consignment was being transported illegally into Gujarat, which continues to enforce strict prohibition laws.

Driver Absconding, Probe Underway

Police said the driver fled the scene before he could be taken into custody. A prohibition offence has been registered at Narol police station, and teams have been deployed to trace the accused.

Officials are also working to identify other individuals involved in the smuggling network.

Investigation Launched Under Gujarat Prohibition Act

The PCB has initiated a detailed investigation under the relevant provisions of the Gujarat Prohibition Act to determine the source of the liquor and its intended destination.

Authorities are examining the route taken by the truck and gathering evidence to establish whether the seizure is linked to a larger interstate liquor smuggling racket.
