High-Tech Hunt in Ahmedabad: Gir Experts Deployed with Thermal Cameras as Leopard Storms Ghuma Society

The Ghuma area of Ahmedabad was gripped by panic in the early hours of the morning after a leopard sneaked into a residential society, triggering a massive, high-tech rescue operation. The Forest Department, alongside the Kankaria Zoo management, has launched an intensive tracking mission to safely capture the big cat. To ensure a swift and safe rescue, a specialized team from the Gir Forest Department has been brought in, joining three local forest rescue teams equipped with advanced surveillance gear and automatic traps.

Late-Night Intrusion Caught on Camera

The drama unfolded at around 2:00 AM at the Sharandeep Society, located on the road connecting Ghuma to Shela on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. A young woman driving her car through the area spotted the wild predator leaping over the society’s boundary wall.

Subsequent reviews of the society's CCTV footage confirmed the leopard's active movement inside the premises at precisely 2:00 AM. Wildlife officials also discovered pugmarks at three to four different locations within the compound, which were later verified by experts from the Kankaria Zoo.

Thermal Surveillance and Strategic Traps

The authorities have turned the area into a secured zone, deploying advanced technology to track the animal's movements. Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Minal Jani outlined the intensive strategy put in place to corner the leopard in the brushwood and surrounding Ranangan area.

• Thermal Imaging: High-tech thermal surveillance cameras are being used to scan thick bushes and dark corners, ensuring the leopard cannot remain hidden for long.
• Automatic Cages: Four to five automated trap cages have been strategically placed across Sharandeep Society and potential escape routes.
• Live Bait: To lure the hungry predator, officials have placed goats inside the cages as bait.

City Officials Take Charge

As news of the leopard's entry spread, anxious residents alerted city officials. Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot, accompanied by DCF Minal Jani and former Kankaria Zoo Superintendent Dr. Sahu, rushed to the spot to assess the situation.

The Mayor interacted with the frightened residents of Sharandeep Society, reassuring them that the expert teams would secure the animal soon. He urged locals to remain alert, stay indoors where possible, and cooperate with the forest department until the operation concludes successfully.
