Hyderabad Woman Ends Life During Video Call, Probe Launched

A 26-year-old woman, identified as Renuka, checked into a hotel in Hyderabad’s Langar Houz area with a man identified as Sheikh at around 3 am on Wednesday, according to reports.

Investigators reportedly said the two had lunch during their stay. Sheikh later left the hotel at around 10:30 pm on Thursday, while Renuka remained alone in the room.

Ordered Dinner Before Video Call

Hotel records show Renuka ordered dinner at around 11:56 pm.

A short while later, at around 12:18 am, she made a video call to her friend, Satya. During the conversation, Satya reportedly advised her not to drink and to take care of herself.

According to investigators, Renuka then told her friend that she was going to end her life and called it a “birthday gift” for Satya, whose birthday is on July 4.

Police said she died by suicide in the hotel room while the video call was still in progress.

After the call, a shocked Satya alerted others and rushed to the hotel. By the time help reached the room, Renuka had been found dead.

Who Was Renuka?

Police reportedly said Renuka was a resident of Alwal. She was married, had a seven-year-old son and had been living separately from her husband.

She worked at a restaurant and pub in Hyderabad. According to the investigation, Sheikh is married and has three children. He runs a dairy business and was reportedly providing financial assistance to Renuka.

Police sources also said Renuka and Sheikh were frequent visitors to the hotel. Investigators are also verifying information that she had visited the hotel earlier with two other male friends.

Investigation Continues

Police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Officials are examining CCTV footage, call records and statements of people connected to the case. Police said the exact sequence of events will be established after the investigation is completed.
