Thieves broke into the Sri Sri Pagal Shankar ISKCON temple in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria district, and stole 14 idols, 20,000 Taka in cash, gold and silver ornaments, and several ritual items, according to reports.

The incident marks the second such robbery at the temple since 2017, raising serious concerns over the safety and security of the Hindu temples. According to reports, the theft occurred in the night when the temple was closed, and the burglars reportedly targeted valuable religious artifacts.

An investigation was reportedly started, and efforts were made to identify those responsible. However, temple staff and Hindu community members have expressed fear and uncertainty, stating that “they do not feel safe”.

The theft comes amid reports of a broader rise in attacks on minority communities and religious institutions across Bangladesh following the political changes after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2024. Several Hindu temples have reported vandalism, theft, and intimidation in recent months.
