An Ahmedabad-based builder fell victim to blackmailing by three women in Patan, accusing him of rape after an impromptu meeting.
A business meeting that took a haywire turn
As per the reports, the 31-year-old builder and his friends travelled to Patan to attend a funeral ceremony on Sept 2. They put up at a hotel located on Chanasma road in Patan.
During their stay at the hotel, the builder was contacted by a woman named Varsha Patel, an Ahmedabad resident from Visnagar, who initiated a conversation about a land sale in the Gota area of Ahmedabad. She also mentioned that she was currently in Patan with a friend of hers, Manisha Rathod, alias Radhika.
A meeting was fixed between the two parties at the builder’s hotel, which took place at around 9.30 p.m. After a while, Patel stood up and left the room under the pretext of having to be somewhere urgently.
What was their modus operandi?
As the clock struck half past 11, there was a knock at room 304’s door, and then came barging in the third woman involved in the nexus, Vandana Ratnotar, posing as a journalist, and a kin of Rathod.
Ratnotar raised questions at the builder for being in the hotel room alone with her niece as she was a runaway and levied serious allegations on him of raping her.
The builder denied all those allegations firmly, but Ratnotar demanded an amount of ₹10 lakh for restraining him from pressing rape charges against him. The builder had asked time until morning to arrange the amount.
Local police had reached the hotel in light of this incident, interrogated the builder and all three women involved. The interrogation revealed the trio’s pre-planned plot to corner the builder and extort a hefty sum from him.
