Updated: Apr 9th, 2024

A girl lost her life and six children had to be admitted to hospital due to suspected food poisoning in the Zekda village of Ahmedabad's Bavla taluka.

The preliminary investigation into the matter revealed that the children of the labourers working in a kiln, aged 2-10, ate the rice and fell ill. They were immediately shifted to the Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad.

The children had complained of diarrhoea and vomiting late in the night. They were brought to the hospital early in the morning of Apr 8, when one of them, a seven-year-old lost her life.

Upon knowing about the incident, the district health officer's team arrived at the kiln and provided the necessary checkups and medicine to around 100 labourers. Food and water samples were taken from the site.

Out of the six children admitted to hospital, three are stable whereas the other three are in critical condition. The investigation into the matter is ongoing to determine whether it was a case of food poisoning or mild cholera.
