Gujarat government’s debt and liabilities cross ₹4.12 lakh cr, reveals CAG report

On the last day of the Gujarat Assembly budget session, the state government presented the audit report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India which revealed liabilities of state has increased to ₹4,12,378.23 cr and government’s dues amount to ₹3,25,273 cr.

As per the report, by the end of Mar 31, 2023, the government has incurred a total market loan of ₹43,000 cr, while repaying loans worth ₹14,700 cr.

The market loan figure has reached ₹2,83,057 cr by the end of Mar 31, 2023. The government has increased its liabilities by ₹1,17,751.56 cr in one year, while repaying ₹86,170.83 cr.

Looking at the differences of the last two years, in 2021-22, the government’s outstanding balance and liabilities were ₹3,80,797.53 cr, which increased by ₹31,580 cr in 2022-23.

In the audit year, the government has publicly announced that it has paid ₹24,224.85 cr in savings and future funds, and ₹1,128.83 cr in other liabilities, paying a total of ₹25,353.68 cr in interest.
