As the countdown to the 2024 Lok Sabha election begins, the spotlight falls on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which secured four seats in the state with margins exceeding five lakh votes during the 2019 elections.

In Lok Sabha elections 2024, the BJP has given a target to all the candidates to win by a margin of five lakh.

During the previous general elections in 2019, the BJP won all 26 seats with share points over 50%.

The ruling party won in Surat with a 74.50% margin, Gujarat president CR Patil won in Navsari with 74.40%, and in Vadodara with a 72.30% margin.

Dahod constituency showed the smallest winning margin in 2019 which exceeded over a lakh votes.

Home minister Amit Shah secured the Gandhinagar seat with an even more significant margin of 5.57 lakh votes in 2019, according to reports.

Ratansinh Rathod won the Panchmahal seat with 4.28 lakh votes in 2019. The party placed Rajpalsinh Jadhav in Panchmahal this time.

Hasmukh Patel, contesting from the Ahmedabad (east) seat, won with a margin of 67.17% in 2019.

Though the party has carried forward the confidence of winning with the highest margins in all the seats in Gujarat, the goal seems far-fetched this election now amid the recent controversy related to Rajkot candidate Parshotttam Rupala that has flared up Gujarat’s caste politics.

Days ago, Rupala, who went to an informal event, made remarks that were derogatory to the Kshatriya community. The party and candidate Rupala are still witnessing waves of agony from the Kshatriya community across Gujarat.

In remote villages, BJP candidates and leaders face bans on entry and campaigning.

Rubbing salt into the wound of Kshatriyas who have decided not to vote for the ruling party, Daskroi MLA Babu Patel said that opposition from Kshatriyas will not affect much and merely cut 5,000–50,000 votes for the BJP.
