501 theft cases reported at temples in three years in Gujarat

In the last three years, a total of 501 theft cases have been registered in temples across Gujarat.
Hiren Banker, a spokesperson for the Opposition Congress, has alleged that under the BJP-led government, even temples are not safe.
According to police records, a total of ₹4,93,72,247 in cash and valuables have been stolen from temples over the past three years.
The number of incidents reported each year was 151, 178, and 172 in the past three years. There have also been five incidents of armed robbery.
The thefts and robberies at temples highlight the government’s failure to provide adequate security, despite the installation of CCTV cameras.
Meanwhile, illegal activities such as usury, bootlegging, and the black market trade of drugs continue to thrive.
There is a severe shortage of police personnel in Gujarat, which is below the national average. Urgent recruitment is needed to improve security and ensure the safety of citizens.
There is an immediate need to strengthen security at all temples, both large and small, and to create a dedicated task force for temple security.
