‘Just Barricades, No Repairs’: Anger After Giant Pothole Opens Up In Gandhinagar

A large section of road caved in near G-Division Circle in Gandhinagar, leaving behind a massive pothole on the busy route leading towards Sector 3 and raising fresh questions over the city's pre-monsoon preparedness. The civic authorities have so far cordoned off the spot with barricades, but the lack of immediate repair work has angered local residents and commuters.

Road Gives Way Near Sector 3

The incident occurred on the main road near G-Division Circle, a busy stretch used by thousands of residents and government employees every day. A portion of the asphalt suddenly sank, creating a deep pothole reportedly large enough to pose a serious risk to passing vehicles.

The incident has raised concerns among motorists, particularly during the monsoon, when poor visibility and waterlogging could make the hazard difficult to spot.

Residents Question Road Quality

Local residents have questioned the quality of road and underground infrastructure work carried out in the city. They have alleged that Gandhinagar's roads are increasingly vulnerable to cave-ins and potholes during the monsoon despite significant spending on projects under the Smart City initiative.

The area has reportedly seen works involving underground drainage, cabling and road resurfacing. Residents have demanded that the authorities investigate whether construction quality or underground pipeline leaks contributed to the road collapse.

Barricading Instead Of Immediate Repairs

Following the incident, authorities placed barricades around the damaged section to prevent vehicles from approaching the pothole. However, residents have expressed anger over what they described as a lack of immediate repair work.

They have also demanded action against contractors and officials if any negligence is found in the construction or maintenance of the road.

Congress Questions Pre-Monsoon Preparedness

Gandhinagar City Congress general secretary Ashwin Suhan criticised the authorities, claiming that road cave-ins have occurred repeatedly at the location.

He said the administration should immediately fill the pothole and undertake permanent repairs to prevent a recurrence.

With the monsoon gaining momentum, the incident has once again put the spotlight on Gandhinagar's road infrastructure and the effectiveness of its pre-monsoon preparations.
