Easy-Pay Founder Nilay Patel Booked in a Physical Assault Case, Will be in Police Custody Till July 29

Ahmedabad-based builder and Easy-Pay app founder Nilay Patel has been remanded to Mumbai Police custody till July 29 after being arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a Delhi-based woman at a five-star hotel near Mumbai Airport.

Patel, who is also associated with the Popular Builder Group and operates a real estate business from SG Highway in Ahmedabad, was arrested by Mumbai's Airport Police following a complaint lodged by the woman.

Woman alleges assault at five-star hotel

According to the FIR, both Patel and the complainant were known to each other and were staying in separate rooms at the same five-star hotel near Mumbai Airport.

The woman alleged that on July 21 at around 3.30 pm, Patel entered her hotel room without permission, climbed onto the bed and attempted to force himself on her by trying to kiss her. She pushed him away and asked him to leave the room.

The complaint further states that despite the incident, Patel allegedly continued calling and messaging her repeatedly on July 22, amounting to sexual harassment.

The woman has also alleged that Patel raped her on July 22 before approaching Mumbai's Airport Police Station with her complaint on the night of July 23.

Case registered under multiple BNS sections

Mumbai Police have registered a case against Patel under Sections 64, 74, 75(2), 76 and 333 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Deputy Commissioner of Police Nimit Goyal said Patel was arrested on July 24 and produced before a court, which remanded him to police custody till July 29.

Police collecting evidence

Investigators are examining evidence in the case and recording statements of hotel staff and other witnesses based on the complainant's allegations. Police said the investigation is underway.
