A domestic dispute in Vadodara's Waghodia Road area ended in tragedy late on Sunday night after a man allegedly attacked his wife with a cutter, leaving her critically injured, before dying by suicide inside their residence.
The incident took place at a house in Uma Park Society under the Kapurai police station limits. The injured woman was rushed to Sayaji Hospital by a 108 ambulance service and remains under treatment in an unconscious condition.
Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against the deceased husband based on a complaint lodged by the woman's father.
Teen Son Alerted Grandfather
According to the complaint filed by Vijayrao Petkar, a transport businessman from Ahmedabad, his elder daughter Jyotiben Pradeep Gangude had been married to Pradeep Gangude for around 15 years. The couple has a 16-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter.
The complainant stated that at around 2.30 am, his grandson telephoned him to say that his father had attacked his mother with a cutter, causing severe injuries to her neck and resulting in heavy bleeding.
The teenager further alleged that after the attack, his father took a saree from the bedroom and locked both children inside the room.
Neighbours Rush to Help
After the son raised an alarm from the balcony, neighbours gathered at the scene and helped bring the children to safety.
Family members and neighbours repeatedly knocked on the door of the house but received no response. When they later looked inside after breaking a window pane, they allegedly found Pradeep hanging from a ceiling hook in the hall using a saree.
Wife Suffers Serious Injuries
Jyotiben was immediately shifted to Sayaji Hospital for emergency treatment.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly attacked her with the intention of killing her. During the assault and subsequent struggle, she also sustained injuries near her eye and on her hand.
Police Register Attempt to Murder Case
Kapurai police have registered an offence of attempt to murder against the deceased under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and have initiated further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
