In what appears to be a TV show ‘Pritam and Pedro’-inspired theft, a gang of thieves allegedly uprooted an ATM in Odisha’s Balasore district by tying it to a Thar SUV and dragging it away before escaping with the cash.

The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of Saturday under the Khaira police station limits and was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the ATM kiosk.

ATM uprooted within minutes

According to reports, more than five people arrived at the kiosk in a black Thar at around 2 am. The group allegedly broke into the ATM centre, tied the machine to their vehicle with a rope and pulled it out of the kiosk.

The suspects then reportedly dragged the ATM to a secluded spot, where they broke it open, took away the cash and fled, leaving the damaged machine abandoned on the road.

The exact amount stolen from the ATM is yet to be determined.

CCTV captures robbery

The CCTV footage shows the SUV stopping in front of the kiosk at around 2.14 am. Several men can be seen unloading a heavy rope and tying one end to the rear of the vehicle while fastening the other end to the ATM inside the kiosk.

Moments later, the vehicle accelerates, ripping the machine out of its frame and scattering debris across the road.

By 2.17 am, the group is seen leaving the spot in the SUV.

Following the latest heist, locals have demanded increased police patrolling and stronger security measures in the region. Police have launched an investigation and are examining the CCTV footage to identify the accused.
