The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of the Ahmedabad City Police arrested a 35-year-old man after allegedly recovering a country-made pistol, five live cartridges and five swords from his possession near the Riverfront area on Monday night.

Police were conducting patrols in the Danilimda area when they received information at around 8 pm that a man carrying illegal firearms and swords was travelling towards Dhobighat from the Kashi Vishwanath Temple side of the Riverfront on a Suzuki Burgman scooter.

A Crime Branch team allegedly intercepted the suspect on the road leading from the Kashi Vishwanath Temple towards Dhobighat. The man was identified as Rajik alias Raju Qureshi, 35, a resident of Sankalitnagar in Juhapura.


Pistol, Cartridges And Swords Recovered

During a search, police allegedly recovered a country-made pistol and five live cartridges from his possession. Five iron swords were also allegedly found in the footwell of the scooter.

According to the FIR, the pistol had a 19-cm barrel and an 11-cm handle and was valued at ₹5,000. The five cartridges, bearing the markings “KF” and “8 MM”, were valued at ₹500.

The five swords were valued at ₹500, while the Suzuki Burgman scooter was valued at ₹70,000. The total value of the seized property was estimated at ₹76,000.

Police Trace Alleged Source Of Firearm

During questioning, the accused allegedly told police that he had purchased the country-made pistol and cartridges around 10 months ago from Muhammad Ayub alias Babu Mulla Sagirbhai Sheikh, a resident of Fatehwadi in Juhapura.

Sheikh has not been arrested yet.

Police have registered a case against Qureshi and Sheikh under relevant sections of the Arms Act. Further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source and intended use of the weapons and whether the accused has links to other criminal activities.
