The Sola High Court police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly possessing Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth ₹1.33 lakh, which was found concealed inside electric geysers, an inverter and a vehicle in Ahmedabad’s Gota area, police said.

According to Sola High Court police, the action was taken as part of a drive against bootleggers and those involved in the illegal sale and possession of liquor in the city.

Police said a team led by Police Inspector K N Bhukan was checking vehicles near Kargil Circle when personnel stopped a vehicle on suspicion. During the search, police allegedly found bottles of IMFL concealed inside an electric geyser and an inverter.

Additional Liquor Recovered From Residence

During questioning, the suspect allegedly told police that he had concealed additional liquor bottles at the residential premises where he was staying.

Police subsequently searched the premises and allegedly recovered more bottles of IMFL, which had been concealed inside electric geysers used for heating water.

The total liquor seized was valued at ₹1.33 lakh, according to police. A vehicle valued at ₹2 lakh and a mobile phone worth ₹5,000 were also seized, taking the total value of the property seized to ₹3.38 lakh.

Accused Has Two Previous Prohibition Cases

The accused was identified as 24-year-old Mohammad Naved Ansar, a carpenter and resident of Vasantnagar Township in Gota.

Police said Ansar has two previous prohibition cases registered against him. One was registered at Gondal Taluka police station in Rajkot district in 2025 under provisions of the Gujarat Prohibition Act, while another was registered at Shamlaji police station in Aravalli district in 2026.
