Caught in ACB Trap: AMC Junior Clerk Caught Accepting ₹2000 Bribe Over Property Tax Application

An Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) junior clerk was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a ₹2,000 bribe in connection with a property tax application, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Jay Dinesh Kulkarni (33), a Class III Junior Clerk in the Property Tax Department's Tax Middle Zone at AMC's Sardar Patel Bhavan in Danapith, was arrested during a trap operation conducted by the Ahmedabad City ACB.

Bribe allegedly sought for processing application

According to the ACB, the complainant had submitted an application to the AMC Tax Department seeking to have his name entered as the occupier in the property tax records of his house.

Investigators said Kulkarni allegedly demanded ₹5,000 to process and approve the application. The complainant allegedly paid ₹3,000 earlier at his office, while the remaining ₹2,000 was to be paid within the next few days.

Unwilling to pay the remaining amount, the complainant approached the ACB, which organised a trap after verifying the complaint.

Caught red-handed in AMC staff canteen

On 20 July 2026, the ACB laid a trap at the AMC Staff Canteen in Danapith, where Kulkarni allegedly accepted the remaining ₹2,000 from the complainant.

The accused was caught on the spot while allegedly accepting the bribe, and the tainted cash was recovered during the operation.

The trap was conducted by Police Inspector V.D. Chowdhary of the Ahmedabad City ACB under the supervision of Assistant Director M.H. Punwar, while Deputy Director Haresh Mewada was the officer in charge of the operation.

Further investigation is under way.
