Delhi Capital’s Abhishek Porel faces complaint over alleged promise of marriage

A complaint has reportedly been filed against Delhi Capitals and Bengal cricketer Abishek Porel, accusing him of having a physical relationship with a woman after allegedly promising to marry her.

The complaint, which also includes allegations of assault and criminal intimidation, was submitted by the woman and her mother at Mogra Police Station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district, as per reports. Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway.

In her complaint, the woman reportedly alleged that she had been in a relationship with Porel for the last three years. She claimed that he had promised to marry her, but their relationship changed last year when he slowly started distancing himself. According to her, he later refused to marry her despite his earlier assurance.

The woman also alleged that Porel had physical relations with her on the promise of marriage, as per reports. Along with this, she accused him of assaulting and threatening her. Police said they have begun looking into all the allegations made in the complaint.

Porel has reportedly denied the accusations. Speaking from Bengaluru, the 23-year-old wicketkeeper-batter said the claims against him were false and suggested that they had surfaced because of his recent performances in cricket.

He also said he would respond in detail after speaking to the police and once the investigation moves forward, as per reports.

Porel has been a part of the Delhi Capitals squad since the 2023 IPL season. He scored 108 runs in four innings during the latest season. The left-handed batter made his first-class debut for Bengal in the 2021-22 season and has since played 32 first-class matches and 23 List A games. He has also been part of India A tours to the United Kingdom and Australia.

The investigation is currently in progress.
