15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Becomes Youngest T20I Debutant, Breaks Sachin’s Record

India won the toss and elected to bat against England in the second T20I of the five-match series at Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday, handing 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi his maiden international cap.

With his debut, Sooryavanshi became the youngest player to debut in T20I cricket, breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record. He received his cap from Tilak Varma ahead of the match.

Tendulkar's Debut

Tendulkar made his debut aged 16 years 205 days old in a Test match against Pakistan in November 1989. Sooryavanshi is 15 years and 99 days old.

2nd T20

The opening T20I in Durham was washed out after rain interrupted play, with only India's innings being completed. India will now look to take the lead in the series after impressive batting performances from Abhishek Sharma and skipper Shreyas Iyer in the rain-hit opener.

At the toss, India captain Shreyas Iyer said the team had made one change, with Sooryavanshi replacing Sanju Samson.

"We'll bat first again. Vaibhav comes in for Sanju. He's someone who doesn't take pressure at all. He completely deserves to be in the squad. The way he bats in the nets and takes on the bowlers shows what kind of player he is," Iyer said.

England captain Harry Brook said his side would also have preferred to bat first and confirmed two changes to the playing XI, with Jofra Archer returning and Josh Tongue making his T20I debut.
