Mumbai cab driver dupes NRI of ₹2,800 for 10-min ride from airport to hotel

A cab driver fleeced a Non-Resident Indian at Mumbai international airport, allegedly charging him ₹2,800 for a 10-minute ride, instead of the standard fare.
As per a report, D Vijay, a native of Nagpur who resides in Australia, arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on December 15. Upon arrival, he was approached by a cab driver, Vinod Goswami.
Goswami showed an inflated fare of ₹2,800 on a fake app to Vijay for the ride to his hotel, to which Vijay agreed.
Goswami then dropped Vijay at his hotel and gave his phone number, asking Vijay to contact him for cab services whenever he was next in town. Upon arriving at the hotel, Vijay inquired at the reception about the fare from the airport to the hotel. The staff informed him that the hotel’s pick-up service charges only ₹700.
Realising he had been duped by the driver, Vijay sent an email to the Sahar police with the cab driver’s phone number.
Based on the information provided by the NRI, the accused was arrested by the Sahar police within hours.
