An elderly Indian-origin man was killed following an attack at Franklin Park, Braunstone Town in Leicestershire.

80-year-old Bhim Kohli was assaulted around 6.30 pm on Sept 1, close to the park’s entrance in Bramble Way while he was walking his dog.

The attackers were five children –  a boy and a girl aged 14 and one boy and two girls aged 12 – who were arrested on suspicion of murder.

The post-mortem examination revealed his death as a result of a neck injury, pending further tests, according to Leicestershire police.

The 14-year-old boy remains in police custody while the other four have been released by police with no further action.

“The circumstances surrounding Mr Kohli’s death are extremely tragic and upsetting not only for his family and friends but also the wider community,” said Detective Inspector Emma Matts.

“Our investigation into the assault on Mr Kohli remains ongoing. We continue to keep an open mind around the circumstances surrounding the incident as we work to establish what occurred in the park that evening. I would continue to urge anyone who can assist our investigation to come forward,” added Matts.
