Child killed by mother’s live in partner in Kerala, Postmortem reveals 51 injuries

An incident reported from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram where a one- and-half-year old boy was allegedly killed by his mother’s live-in partner after months of torturing the little baby before his death .The postmortem report later revealed 51 injuries including wounds, fractures, and burns found on the child's body, as per reports.
On May 29, the toddler was rushed to Sri Avittom Thirunal Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, by his mother’s live-in partner, identified as A Ashkar, who claimed that the child had choked while eating food. The child was declared dead soon after, as per reports.
Later, the postmortem reportedly revealed that the child was tortured for over a month after fractures, wounds, and burns found on his body. An autopsy report revealed fractured ribs and arms.
After the incident was reported to the police, K Biju Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, reportedly said that they have arrested Ashkar, 31 and child’s mother, Akhila, 24, who subjected to torture the child over a period of time.
In the preliminary investigation, it is found that Ashkar considered the child as an obstacle to his life with Akhila, leading him to commit the crime with the connivance of the boy’s mother, he added, the report cited.
The investigation has found evidence suggesting the child was subjected to repeated abuse over an extended period. His arms were broken, and his genitals bore marks of cigarette burns, the report states.
During the interrogation, Ashkar reportedly told the police that Akhila, a dancer, had travelled to Tamil Nadu for a programme on Friday and left her son with him. While he was trying to feed the child, he started crying, at that moment Ashkar banged his head against the wall in a fit of rage.
The police also found that both accused had started living together about five months ago after Akhila’s husband died by suicide before the child’s birth, as per reports.
