5 cyclonic circulations active across India, IMD issues rain and heatwave alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for many parts of the country as 5 cyclonic circulations are currently active over India. Due to these weather systems, many states are likely to receive pre monsoon rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in coming days. While several northern states are getting relief from heat, Rajasthan may face heatwave conditions again from May 9, 2026.
Rain and strong winds likely in many states
According to IMD, rain and thunderstorms will continue in Bihar till May 10, 2026, keeping temperatures under control. Delhi-NCR may witness cloudy skies and cool winds, while scattered rain and strong winds are expected in Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana. Uttar Pradesh may also receive rain and thunderstorms, especially in western areas.
Heavy rainfall alerts have been issued for Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Sikkim, and sub Himalayan West Bengal. Strong winds with speeds up to 60 km/h may hit some eastern regions. In South India, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana are likely to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms during the next seven days.
Heatwave warning and new Arabian Sea system
Even though many states are getting relief from high temperatures, western Rajasthan may once again experience serious heatwave conditions from May 9, 2026. The temperature may rise by 3 to 5°C in the region. Light rain may occur in some parts of Rajasthan till May 8, but relief is expected to be short lived.
Meanwhile, weather experts are also monitoring a new system developing over the Arabian Sea. According to ‘Skymet Weather’, a cyclone may form around May 10 in the southeast Arabian Sea, although confirmation will take another few days.
The active cyclonic circulations and changing weather systems are causing major weather changes across India. While many states are expected to receive rain and cooler temperatures, some regions like Rajasthan may continue to face intense heat. The Meteorological Department has advised people to stay alert and follow weather updates regularly.
