Trudeau meets King Charles after Trump’s Canada takeover statement

Following Donald Trump’s controversial statement proposing that Canada become the 51st US state – claiming it would help Canadians with taxes – outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with King Charles to discuss the country’s future.
Trump has repeatedly suggested that Canada should join the US, a proposition strongly rejected by Canadian officials. He stated that if annexation happened, he would eliminate taxes for Canadians.
Trudeau’s meeting with King Charles, took place at the royal residence in Sandringham. While details of their private discussions remain undisclosed, reports indicate that Trump’s annexation remarks and his newly announced 25% tariffs on Canadian goods were key topics.
Trudeau shared a photo from the meeting on X, writing, “I met with His Majesty King Charles III this morning. We spoke about matters of importance to Canadians—including, above all, Canada’s sovereign and independent future.”
As Trump’s proposed tariffs on Canada and Mexico take effect, the meeting underscores growing concerns about US-Canada relations.
