Zepto employee booked for allegedly stealing cooking oil, sugar worth ₹1 lakh from store

A 25-year-old employee of a private company in Ahmedabad has been booked for allegedly stealing edible oil and sugar worth more than ₹1 lakh from his employer’s store over multiple days, after the theft was purportedly uncovered through CCTV footage.

As per a complaint lodged at Sarkhej Police Station, the accused identified as Noman Hussain Sheikh, a resident of Vejalpur, was employed as a rider with Zepto company operating from Nalanda Icon in the Makarba area.

Police said the complaint was filed by Mohammad Shehzad Khan Pathan, 30, a shift in-charge at the company, who alleged that during a stock verification conducted between April 21 and 26, shortages were detected in the company’s inventory.

Subsequent scrutiny of CCTV footage allegedly revealed that the accused had been moving cartons and bags of goods from the company’s ground-floor store to a bathroom inside the premises before removing them through a broken bathroom window, police said.

Investigators said the footage purportedly showed the accused repeatedly transporting the stolen items outside the premises at different times during the night using a two-wheeler.

The allegedly stolen items include 31 boxes of Tirupati cotton oil worth ₹83,452, eight boxes of Gulab Singh oil worth ₹19,760, and one bag of sugar worth ₹250, taking the total value of the missing goods to approximately ₹1.03 lakh.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case of theft against the accused and launched an investigation into the matter.
