School Sweeper Arrested Under POCSO at Ahmedabad School
Police arrest school sweeper

A 54-year-old housekeeping staff member employed at an international school in Ahmedabad has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old student on the school premises and threatening the child not to reveal the incident, police said.

The accused, identified as Pashabhai Nanubhai Bhangi (54), worked as a sweeper at LDR International School in Ghuma, under the jurisdiction of the Bopal Police Station.

According to police, the case came to light after the child's guardian approached the Bopal Police Station and lodged a complaint alleging that the accused had subjected the minor to sexual abuse and inappropriate physical contact within the school campus.

The complaint further alleged that the accused threatened the child with consequences if the incident was disclosed to anyone.

Based on the complaint, Bopal Police registered an FIR on June 25 under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police said an immediate investigation was launched, and the accused was arrested the same day at around 11:10 pm.

The accused currently resides in Manmohannagar near the Sanathal Toll Plaza in Sarkhej and is originally from Dedar village in Siddhpur taluka of Patan district.

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and are verifying whether any additional evidence or witnesses may be linked to the case.

N S Chauhan, Police Inspector of the Bopal Police Station, said the accused was taken into custody promptly after the FIR was registered and that further investigation is underway.

Police have withheld the identity of the child in compliance with legal provisions that prohibit disclosure of the identities of minors involved in cases under the POCSO Act.
