Youth killed, two injured in hit-and-run accident in Ahmedabad, accused driver arrested

A 21-year-old man was killed and two others were seriously injured after a speeding car allegedly rammed into their two-wheeler near Motera Janpath crossroads in Ahmedabad during the early hours of Thursday, police said.
According to the police complaint, the deceased was identified as Ankit Kumar Patel, a resident of New Railway Colony near Railway Hospital in Sabarmati. The complaint was filed by his father, Hitendrabhai Patel, 47.
Police said the incident took place around 1.30 am on May 8 when Ankit Patel, along with two friends, Jaswantkumar Thakor, 16, and Gautam Solanki, 19 was travelling on an Activa scooter bearing registration number near Janpath crossroads.
Investigators alleged that the scooter was allegedly hit by car, driven at high speed and in a reckless manner, collided with the scooter, causing the riders to be thrown onto the road. Ankit Patel sustained fatal injuries and died in the accident, while the two pillion riders suffered serious injuries.
Police further stated that the driver of the car fled the scene immediately after the collision without offering assistance to the victims.
Based on the complaint registered at the L traffic police station, a case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to rash and negligent driving, causing death by negligence, and causing injuries, along with provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The accused driver was identified as Vedant Amit Gautam, 24, a resident of Vaishnodevi Circle in Ahmedabad. Police said he was detained along with the four-wheeler vehicle at around 2 pm on May 8.
