Vasava vs Vasava: BJP, AAP contenders for Bharuch exchange verbal blows at Dediapada
Updated: May 18th, 2024
Voting might be over in Bharuch, but two contenders in the Lok Sabha 2024 election are not done clashing with each other.
The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate and incumbent MP Mansukh Vasava (66) and the Aam Aadmi Party’s Chaitar Vasava (36) exchanged heated words at the taluka panchayat office in Narmada district’s Dediapada on May 17.
It all began with a mysterious clarion call from the older Vasava.
“Dediapada MLA Chaitar Vasava has threatened the taluka development officer (TDO) BJP workers should gather and reach the taluka panchayat office, I have already left to visit the office,” Mansukh Vasava wrote on social media.
However, when the MP and his supporters arrived at the taluka panchayat, they were met by the MLA and his supporters.
In the no-holds-barred confrontation that followed, Chaitar Vasava demanded to know why Mansukh Vasava “rushed” there instead of presenting proof supporting his allegations, and filing a complaint against him.
To which Mansukh Vasava replied that it was his duty to visit the spot. “I am this area’s MP. I came to know that you were threatening the TDO here so I had to come here.”
The argument moved to more familiar lines when panchayat member Hitesh Vasava questioned Mansukh Vasava about his wealth and alleged corruption, leading Chaitar Vasava to ask why Mansukh Vasava did not rush to look into the matter when the district witnessed corruption.
“You have made crores worth of Kamalam offices across Gujarat, build schools here! You have a habit of rushing to places and ruining the environment,” accused Chaitar Vasava.
He also approached Deputy Superintendent of Police Lokesh Yadav, promising to register a case against Mansukh Vasava if the latter failed to prove his allegations.
Interestingly, the nature of the original “threat” mentioned in Mansukh Vasava’s social media post, which led to the kerfuffle, remains unclear.
