Vadodara SOG nabs history-sheeter drug peddler with ₹22 lakh MD drugs

In yet another drug bust, the Vadodara special operation group (SOG) seized a total of 221 gm of MD drugs (also known as MDMA) worth ₹22 lakh from the city’s Bhutdi Jhapa area on Apr 5.

Acting on a tip, SOG police inspector (PI) VC Patel and his team raided the premises of a building in the Bhutdi Jhapa area and nabbed Ghulam Haider Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, initiating further interrogation.

The city police called a forensic team to take samples of the drugs.

The police have seized two mobile phones from the alleged drug peddler, which are being examined by a team to find his network. 

According to reports, the drug peddler, named Sheikh, was caught with MDMA drugs worth ₹22 lakh along with two mobile phones and cash of ₹4,500. The call details from his phone are being scrutinised.

Investigations are underway regarding his suppliers and regular customers.

Who is Ghulam Rafiq Ahmed Sheikh?

The drug peddler used to work as a driver for a woman in Mumbai. During 2020, he was charged with drug smuggling of 20 kg in Mumbai.

Around three years ago, the crime branch seized MD drugs worth ₹70 crore in Indore. At that time, Sheikh was involved in that racket and later nabbed in Vadodara, as per reports.

According to reports, more than 35 accused from seven states were arrested in this case. Among them, a woman from Mumbai was also involved. It was revealed that Sheikh used her car to peddle drugs. The police revealed that Sheikh had smuggled around 20 kg of drugs in Mumbai. However, he was released on bail later.
