Drugs in Kutch

In another major drug bust made in Gujarat, the East Kutch Special Operations Group (SOG) has nabbed a Punjab-based drug peddler named Simranjit Singh Simbe, who was caught delivering and selling drugs in Gandhidham.

The 32-year-old accused was caught on Apr 3 at around 9 p.m. near the AV Joshi Overbridge on the Gandhidham-Bhachau National Highway. He was found with 64.20g of heroin, worth ₹32.10 lakh, concealed inside the sole of his boot.

During interrogation, Simranjit revealed that he is a resident of Tarn Taran, Punjab. He had received the heroin consignment from his friend Rahul on Apr 2, after which he boarded a train from Firozpur and reached Palanpur on Apr 3.

He then took an ST (state transport) bus to Gandhidham. He was supposed to deliver the heroin to his friend in Gandhidham, identified as Neeraj Tiwari, alias Pandit.

The SOG has seized the heroin consignment, train and bus tickets, ₹470 in cash, and a mobile phone from Simranjit, and a case has been registered against him and his associates Rahul and Neeraj at the Gandhidham B Division police station.

Police teams are searching for Simrajit’s friend, Neeraj Tiwari.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that Simranjit has visited Kutch several times in the past three months. During his visits, Neeraj would accommodate him at his house in Gandhidham. During his two- to five-day-long stay, he used to sell drugs locally.

A team from the Gandhidham B Division Police Station has been deployed to visit Tarn Taran in Punjab to nab Rahul and investigate his involvement.
