At least two people were killed and 13 others injured in a head-on collision between a private bus and a truck on the Mehsana–Rajasthan highway near Motidau in Mehsana early on Tuesday morning.

The accident took place when a private luxury bus travelling towards Ahmedabad allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road at high speed, resulting in a direct collision with an oncoming truck.

According to officials, the impact of the crash was so severe that the front portions of both vehicles were completely mangled. Eyewitnesses said the force of the collision caused panic on the highway, with passengers screaming for help immediately after the crash.

Locals and passers-by rushed to the spot and assisted in rescue efforts before emergency services arrived.

Police said two passengers died on the spot, while 13 others sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The injured were shifted to Mehsana Civil Hospital and nearby private hospitals using 108 ambulance services. Doctors said the condition of some of the injured remains critical.

The crash led to a major traffic jam on the highway for several hours before police cleared the route and restored movement.

Officers have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, including the alleged wrong-side driving by the bus driver.
