The Ahmedabad Police Commissioner’s Office has suspended two traffic police personnel over alleged negligence and misconduct during a vehicle checking drive after a social media post criticising their behaviour went viral last month.

According to suspension orders issued by the H-Branch of the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner’s Office, Assistant Head Constable Surendrasinh Ramsinh and Rajubhai Kalubhai, both attached to the I Traffic Police Station in Ahmedabad city, were placed under suspension pending departmental proceedings.

Police officials stated that a special vehicle checking drive was conducted across Ahmedabad on April 11 between 8 am and 8 pm following instructions issued through an official broadcast message on April 10. The operation was aimed at maintaining law and order and intensifying traffic enforcement across designated locations in the city.

As per departmental instructions, all personnel deployed during the drive were required to wear prescribed traffic police uniforms, maintain patrol books, record checking details in registers and keep body-worn cameras switched on throughout the operation.

However, on April 15, a social media post by one Sandeep Manudhane on X, formerly Twitter, and LinkedIn allegedly highlighted “suspicious and inappropriate” behaviour by Ahmedabad traffic police personnel during the checking drive. The post, titled “Life of a common Indian while passing through Model State Gujarat”, reportedly gained significant traction online and drew criticism over the conduct of the officers involved.

According to the suspension orders, the allegations and the subsequent viral circulation of the post tarnished the image of the Ahmedabad Traffic Police.

A departmental inquiry found that the suspended personnel allegedly failed to comply with mandatory instructions regarding the use of body-worn cameras and other procedural norms during the April 11 vehicle checking operation.
