TET-TAT candidates protest in Gandhinagar seeking timely recruitment, detained
Candidates who have cleared the TET-TAT (Teacher Eligibility Test and Teacher Aptitude Test) took to the streets at the Satyagrah Chhavni in Gandhinagar on Monday, demanding timely recruitment, which has been delayed for the past two years.
The protest prompted strict police arrangements at the site, and a number of protestors were detained by the police.
Repeated appeals, but no response
In April 2023, the state government conducted exams for Vidya Sahayak positions, followed by two-tier TAT(S) and TAT(HS) exams in June and September 2023. Despite a significant time lapse, the recruitment of 24,700 teachers has not been completed yet.
Candidates have repeatedly made written and verbal representations to Gujarat’s Education Minister Kuber Dindor and others, urging them to speed up the process and increase vacancies in the ongoing recruitment cycle. However, no satisfactory response has been received.
The candidates are demanding that the chief minister and education minister must personally intervene and instruct education department officials to complete the recruitment process for 24,700 teachers promptly and increase vacancies where possible.
Notably, on January 16, the state had assured the candidates that the recruitment process for all teachers, including those for grades 1 to 12, would be completed within a month, and appointment letters would be issued in a transparent manner.
However, 40 days have passed, and no progress has been made in the recruitment process. Candidates are questioning whether government statements hold any credibility.
Demands of TET-TAT candidates
–Publish merit list and DV (document verification) schedule for Education Assistants (Grades 9 to 12).
–Release a category and subject-wise vacancy list for Vidya Sahayak (Grades 1 to 8).
–Approximately 5,700 teachers and 1,200 principals who were transferred should have their vacant positions included in the ongoing recruitment cycle.
–The 2,750 Vidya Sahayaks approved last year should be included in the current recruitment as additional vacancies.
–Complete the phased teacher recruitment process and issue appointment letters before the summer vacation.
According to RTI, as of May 31, 2025, there will be 21,354 vacant positions for teachers in grades 1 to 5 due to retirements. Why is the recruitment process only filling 5,000 positions? Need answers for the same.
