The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) laid the foundation stones for various projects worth over ₹5,639 cr between Feb 10 and Mar 15, a day before the model code of conduct (MCC) came into force for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Inaugurations and the foundations worth ₹913 cr were held on Mar 15.

In these 35 days, 28 projects worth ₹2,265.35 cr have been inaugurated, and foundation stones have been laid for 129 projects worth ₹3,373.75 cr under the area of the Surat municipality.

On Feb 22, prime minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the PM MITRA (Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel) Park at Vansi Borsi in Navsari. At the event, the PM virtually inaugurated 14 development works of SMC worth ₹1,130 cr and laid the foundation stone for 35 works worth ₹2,112 cr, along with one work of Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA) worth ₹479 cr, totalling up to 53 works worth ₹3,772 cr.

Modi also inaugurated 50 e-buses of SMC worth ₹4,512 cr.

Earlier, on Feb 10, three projects worth ₹172.85 cr of SMC were also inaugurated.

On Mar 14, a day before the MCC was implemented, two projects worth ₹108.55 cr were inaugurated, and foundation stones were laid for 75 works worth ₹806.71 cr.
