A roadside food vendor was allegedly assaulted by a group of anti-social elements near Maninagar Railway Station in Ahmedabad, with the attackers also accused of attempting to run him over, abducting him in a rickshaw and robbing him of cash and mobile phones, police said.

The incident reportedly took place after the accused consumed food at an idli-dosa stall and refused to pay the bill. When the vendor demanded payment, they allegedly threatened him and began assaulting him.

According to the complaint, the assailants called additional accomplices to the spot and allegedly attempted to run a rickshaw over the vendor. They then forced him into the vehicle and took him nearly three kilometres away, where he was again beaten.

Police said the attackers also used sharp weapons during the assault and issued death threats to the victim. The complainant has alleged that the accused robbed him of two mobile phones and cash during the incident.

The victim, identified as Abhaysinh Parmar, along with another individual, Drashtant Modi, sustained injuries in the attack.

CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing portions of the assault, which has since gone viral and drawn public attention.

The Maninagar police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officials said efforts are under way to identify and apprehend the accused, and to verify the sequence of events captured in the footage.
