Considering the vacant seats across various branches of engineering colleges, Gujarat has finally decided to transfer a total of 40 assistant professors to engineering and polytechnic colleges.

The commissioner of technical education has been restructuring various branches and seats in engineering colleges; however, it did not match the number of teachers transferred to such colleges.

As a result, courses like robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and others were left without professors.

Transfers of assistant professors

Out of 24 government engineering college transfers, 16 assistant professors from two government colleges in Bhavnagar, three colleges in Bhuj, and five colleges in Godhra are to be transferred, while professors from colleges in Rajkot, Vishwakarma Government Engineering College (VGET) in Chandkheda, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Surat, Bhuj, and Ahmedabad are to be transferred.

Moreover, five diploma colleges in Morbi, three in Bhuj, two in Rajkot, two in Chhota Udepur, and two in Patan will be transferred to Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Ahmedabad, and Surat’s polytechnic colleges.

The transfers are made in branches including mechanical, IC, EC, robotics and automation, AI, and data science.

Over the past two years, Gujarat has witnessed persistent vacancies across various branches, with demands for new branches left unmet in certain districts.

Following a comprehensive review of district-wise situations and statistical data, the government has opted to overhaul the structure and administration of branches and seats over the past three years within government engineering degree-diploma colleges.

Many colleges have started new branches and courses, while some institutions have opted to discontinue certain courses and branches due to a lack of staff.
