State introduces help centres for GCAS portal-related queries in 471 colleges

Updated: Apr 3rd, 2024

After the state released a common portal for admission in 14 universities, registrations for online admissions for undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD courses commenced on Apr 1.

However, the initiative of the common portal faced backlash and criticism from student organisations. It lacked clarity of procedure and help centres.

Acting on the feedback and criticism, the authorities announced help centres in 471 government and grant colleges.

As per the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) portal, Ahmedabad is home to the highest number of help centres in areas including Bavla, Maninagar, Vejalpur, Daskroi, Ghatlodia, and Mandal.

Moreover, private colleges still await the announcement of help centres.

Queries related to admission will be solved at the help centres, and it will be mandatory to visit the centre for document verification.

Nodal officers in each of the 14 state universities have also been appointed who will convey the concerns of the universities to the education department.

According to reports, on the second day of the GCAS portal, over 2,000 students registered in the portal and more than 4,500 registered in UG courses.
