Common admission portal for state universities for upcoming academic year

Students will have to pay a one-time fee to register on the portal instead of paying fees for various forms of different colleges

Updated: Nov 3rd, 2023

The state universities have started to witness winds of changes after the recent enactment of the Common Universities Act.

In order to make the admission procedures for students easy and secure, the Gujarat government announced a common platform, Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS), for the academic year 2024-25.

Students will have to pay a one-time fee to register on the portal instead of paying fees for various forms of different colleges.

No need to pay various form fees

The state government spokesperson, Rushikesh Patel, said, “At present, a student spends ₹500 on admission forms for various colleges. Under this new system, students will be able to fill out the forms on a common platform for a nominal cost.”

The students will have the same amount of time for every university and course selection.

As there will be a common admission procedure, it will save time and administrative costs for universities, too.

With GCAS, students can choose their courses, get data on the board, and get their seat numbers on the portal itself.

The centre will verify the documents, a merit list will be prepared, and students will be allotted colleges accordingly, along with online counselling.

The portal will enable admission confirmation, OTP login services, and multiple dashboards for students.

After a trial of protests over the passing of the Common Universities Act 2023, the state government had asked the 11 universities to start implementing the changes from Oct 9.
