Sea of drugs? Charas worth over ₹5 cr seized from Sutrapada shore in Gujarat

The series of drug hauls from the coasts of Saurashtra continues as unclaimed charas worth ₹5.30 crore were found on the beach at Dhamlej village in Sutrapada of Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district.
The Special Operation Group (SOG) has filed a case against unknown individuals at the Sutrapada police station and has started an investigation.
Upon receiving information about some unclaimed packets lying on the seashore near the road leading to the Hundviya Pir Dargah near the crematorium in Dhamlej village, SOG PI J N Gadhvi and PSI P J Batva, along with their staff, rushed to the spot.
During the investigation, about nine packets were found. Upon examination by an FSL officer, it was confirmed that the packets contained charas. The total amount of charas was 10.6 kg. SOG estimated its international market value to be ₹5.30 crore.

In recent times, The tides of the sea have brought drugs to Gujarat’s shores in abundance. Drugs worth ₹380 crore in 2.5 years have been seized from the Gir Somnath district alone.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manojsinh Jadeja who led the confiscation of over ₹300 crore worth of drugs, said, “The smugglers throw drug packets mid-sea under the fear of getting caught by the agencies, and later these packets make their way to the shores.”
